Parking Rules, OK?
October 1, 2007

Ever had that sinking feeling as you get back to you car just as a traffic warden is starting to write you a ticket? They never give you any slack, do they? Well, in future you might just be lucky.

On March 1, 2008, the 2004 Traffic Management Act comes into force. One of its provisions is to curb over-zealous ticketing. Some council bosses have offered prizes - televisions, iPods, holidays, even cars – for parking attendants who beat ever-higher ticket targets. That is set to become illegal. The Department for Transport now says that councils should not set targets, but instead take into account the number of complaints against unfair tickets and the effect that their parking management has on congestion and safety.
