NEWS Contacting The World - via Liverpool
The American contribution comes from the Creative Arts Team from New York City. Partnered with City university of New York, CAT has pioneered the use of drama as an educational tool in public schools since 1974. The group will be paired with London's Project Phakama – each of the twelve companies involved twinned to form 6 pairings. They engage in a year long exchange, overcoming cultural and geographical distances to create brand new pieces of cutting–edge theatre. Based at the Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts (LIPA) & Unity Theatre, Liverpool, Contacting The World will involve performances, workshops and street theatre by groups from the U.S.A., Brazil, Palestine, Zambia, Nepal, India, Turkey, Germany, Poland and the UK. It will climax on August 2, with the largest single carnival performance in the UK. 2000 costumed participants, acrobats, musicians, circus performers and street theatre groups will collaborate with artists from all over the world in a carnival event that will procession through Liverpool. Liverpool is a city with immense historical and cultural links to the United States. If you're interested in visiting it, this year is the perfect time to go – it's the 2008 European Capital of Culture. Contacting The World runs from July 27 to August 2, 2008 www.contactingtheworld.org |
