The two US Cemeteries in the UK, at Brookwood and Cambridge, are re-opening from today (July 1) as the lockdown continues to ease.
In the announcement, the American Battle Monuments Commission (ABMC), confirmed that members of the public are now able to visit both sites, although indoor spaces including visitor centers, chapels, visitor buildings and public restrooms will remain closed to ensure the safety and security of visitors.
Visitors to the cemeteries will be able to access portions of the cemetery, with a designated route in place to allow for social distancing. Although ceremonies and gatherings in the grounds are not permitted, the ABMC has suggested that visitors who are next of kin and family members of the fallen, as well as WWII Veterans, should contact the cemetery they are visiting in advance.
The re-opening of ABMC's sites in the UK follows the re-opening of cemeteries across Europe. Venues in France, Belgium, Italy and the Netherlands opened their gates to the public in early June.
