THE TRANSATLANTIC MAGAZINE
Two Americans living in London, Josh Weilerstein and Bernice Keshet, have organized a special online concert this weekend, Sunday July 26, with a stellar line up to raise funds 'Spread The Vote', a group helping Americans to obtain Photo IDs.
The concert is called Opus 2020 and begins at 3pm EST / 8pm BST. The event features performers from huge names in the world of classical music including Yo Yo Ma, Emanuel Ax, Anthony McGill, Jonathan Biss, Alisa Weilerstein and Noah Bendix-Balgley. Conductor Josh Weilerstein will be hosting the event.
100% of the proceeds from the evening will go towards supporting Spread The Vote. The goal of Spread The Vote is to "help members of our communities empower themselves to be heard at the polls: with IDs, registration, education, and turnout." The organization, which is non-profit and non-partisan, operates across 12 States.
Bernice Keshet, who has organized the event along with her husband Josh, told us that "Issues around voter ID access disproportionately affect People of Color as well as those with low incomes. Josh and I wanted to put together a virtual fundraiser in order to help them [Spread The Vote] in their work, and have called on some of our best friends in the musical world in order to help us out!"
