USA vs UK at Simpson Cup 2019 in Scotland
The Ryder-Cup style golfing tournament for injured service personnel is coming to the iconic St Andrews golf course in Scotland on May 21/22
Published on May 16, 2019

After a close fought win for Team USA in the 2018 Simpson Cup, the US-UK golfing tournament for injured service personnel returns to UK soil for its 2019 event. The tournament, which takes place between May 19 and 22, sees the tournament visit the iconic St Andrews course in Scotland.

The Simpson Cup takes the form of a Ryder-Cup style tournament, with Veterans from the US and UK taking to the greens to compete. In 2018, we spoke with members of the US Team to understand more about the importance of this tournament for injured personnel, and how it has helped them in their recovery after service. One of the veterans we spoke with, Kevin McCloskey, is set to take on the St Andrews course next week. Ahead of the 2018 event, he explained why it's important to him to be involved in the Simpson Cup, and the On Course Foundation:

"I have been golfing for a few years now. Every time I play, I play with family and friends. Joining an organization like On Course gives you the opportunity to learn. Not only about yourself but about your brother and sisters. Playing others with the same injuries as you allows you to feel free. You are able to feel like the playing ground is equal. The way we get treated sometimes from civilians makes you feel babied. There is none of that when it comes to vet vs vet."

Chris Bowers, who also has also been selected for USA in the 2019 Simpsons Cup, said ahead of the 2018 event: "The On Course Foundation gave me the ability to help disabled veterans through the game of golf. Whether it was instruction, or job placement, the On Course always stood ready to assist veterans in need. They have allowed me to interact and develop life long friendships with my fellow American veterans, as well as our brother and sister veterans across the pond."

The Simpson Cup 2019 begins on Sunday May 19, with an opening reception followed by a fundraising Gala. On Monday May 20, it's the Sponsor/Player Golf Tournament. The big event kicks off on Monday May 21 and 22, with the golfers taking to the Old and New courses in a bid to see who will prevail in this year's Transatlantic tussle. Good luck to both Team USA and Team UK!
