US Vice President Mike Pence announced Saturday March 14 that all travel will be suspended from the UK and Ireland to the United States effective from midnight EST on Monday March 16. This will not apply to American citizens and legal residents currently abroad in the UK Ireland who may return to the States. The extension of the ban is part of the US’s drive to limit the spread of coronavirus.
The UK and Ireland have been added to the restricted list due to in increase in coronovirus cases in the UK. At March 15, 1,372 people were confirmed as COVID-19 positive and 35 patients who had been tested positive had died.
On March 11 President Trump issues a Presidential Proclamation suspending travel from 26 European countries to the USA but said that “These restrictions will also not apply to the United Kingdom." For more details Click Here.
The travel restrictions do not apply to cargo or economic shipping, the US Coronavirus Task Force said.
