Yesterday evening, March 23, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced new rules as part of a nationwide strategy to reduce the spread of coronavirus.
The main takeaway from the rules is that for the next three weeks, all members of the public in the UK are being told to remain in their homes, to only go outside for essential shopping (for food and medicine), for short exercises (whilst maintaining a 2 meter distance to other people), and only for work when absoutely necessary. Police forces in the UK will be given the authority to issue fines to those who do not comply with the restrictions, and the ability to disperse large gatherings.
The new restrictions come into place as the UK begins to feel the full force of the Coronavirus spread, which has already seen thousands lose their lives on Continental Europe.
We at The American urge all Americans in the UK to follow these new restrictions, to help slow the virus' spread and to help save lives. If you're an American in the UK and need support, information, advice, or would just like to chat, our telephone line remains open, just give us a call on +44(0)1747 830520, e-mail us via email@example.com, or connect with us on Twitter (@TheAmericanMag), Facebook (TheAmericanCommunity) or Instagram (TheAmericanMag) - we're here to share information, share stories and help the US Community in the UK during these unusual and challenging times.
