US Pasties Win Again at 2019 World Pasty Championships in Cornwall
Pure Pasty Co from Virginia take the Open Savoury Company prize for a Thanksgiving inspired pasty

An American pasty company crossed the pond last weekend (March 2) and won a second consecutive award at the annual World Pasty Championsips, held at the Eden Project in Cornwall.

Pure Pasty Co, based in Virginia, won the Open Savoury Company award in 2018 for a BBQ Chicken pasty, and this year returned with a Thanksgiving-inspired Turkey with Cranberry creation. Mike Burgess, who emigrated to the US from Cheshire, UK, said that "It feels amazing to win again, I can’t believe it. The turkey and cranberry pasty is basically an American fusion pasty that contains all the flavours of the traditional Thanksgiving dinner. It’s been so popular in our shop that we’ve had to introduce it all year round."

Nearly 200 pasties made by amateurs, professionals, juniors and companies competed in the gala contest, with companies traveling from the States and also Canada to compete. Congratulations to Pure Pasty Co on taking the Open Savoury Company award home to the States!
