A big month lays ahead of us in May. It’ll be a month of remembrance as the UK and USA mark the 75th anniversary of VE Day, and of course Memorial Day. It’ll be a month of recovery for many, and sadness for others, as the Coronavirus pandemic continues. It’ll be a month of perseverance, as the lockdown remains and we all do our bit to stay safe, protect others and keep the world turning. As we mark May Day in a more somber mood than usual, here’s a rallying chorus from Ralph Waldo Emerson himself, in his May-Day Poem:

Wreaths for the May! for happy Spring
To-day shall all her dowry bring,
The love of kind, the joy, the grace,
Hymen of element and race,
Knowing well to celebrate
With song and hue and star and state,
With tender light and youthful cheer,
The spousals of the new-born year.
Lo Love's inundation poured
Over space and race abroad!
