On Thursday the 4th of November 2021 I saw a great band create a great interactive vibe at The Golden Hinde. That's right, inside Sir Francis Drake's ship itself - or the perfect replica built in the 1970s that also sailed round the world! A very intimate venue, to say the least.

The Yes Mess consists of Danthedan (vocal/acoustic guitar/songwriter), Kid Kirby (vocal/clarinet), Gil Frost (accordion), The José (electric guitar), Charlie Higgs (bass) and Mark Edwards (drums). The group was tight, engaging, and all too much fun, with well written songs, high energy performances and fine musicianship as well as an irreverence that more than contributed to the quality of the evening.

Support came from the wonderful Laine Hines, playing truly authentic pre-war blues. Stick him behind a curtain and you think you're listening to a 1930s record. It was a stellar night of music and fun at a quite strange venue. The Golden Hinde (again, the Actual Ship) is a new venue just starting up - this was the first night. The gig was put together by events organiser Victoria Major, who did a great job in making everyone comfortable and providing a great lineup of music, of which I'm told there is more to come.

There will also be an open mic every first Wednesday of the month, and you should definitely check out the venue, if for nothing else its uniqueness and the warmth you feel from staff.
