Grounds and reception area remain open but visitor center shuts for renovation

By News Team | Published on September 22, 2025

The visitor center at Cambridge American Cemetery in England closed September 13 and the facility will be closed for renovation through late October, the American Battle Monuments Commission has announced.

The grounds of the cemetery as well as the reception area will remain open, and the cemetery staff will be still available to assist visitors and answer questions.

Cambridge American Cemetery is one of two US military cemeteries in the UK – the other is at Brookwood, Surrey – with Cambridge being the only World War II site. It is located on the outskirts of the university city of Cambridge. It was a temporary cemetery during the war and commonly described as the “aviator’s cemetery” or the Eighth Air Force Cemetery’, due to the many surrounding airfields. It contains the graves of approximately 4,000 U.S. service members. In addition, more than 5,100 names are also inscribed on its walls of the missing.

The American Battle Monuments Commission operates and maintains 26 cemeteries and 31 federal memorials, monuments and commemorative plaques in 17 countries throughout the world.
