Democrats Abroad, the official arm of the Democratic Party outside the United States, launched a survey on taxation for all U.S. citizens abroad on April 5. The organization encourages all U.S. citizens living outside the country to participate.

"Things have changed significantly in the last few years for Americans abroad, especially with the impact of the pandemic," said Rebecca Lammers, Chair of the Democrats Abroad Taxation Task Force. "We need updated research to share with Congress to raise awareness of the tax and financial access problems faced by Americans abroad."

Democrats Abroad has a history of producing leading research in the area of tax discrimination faced by Americans abroad. The organization will use the data collected from the survey to help shape its advocacy priorities along with its Congressional and grassroots outreach strategy. Democrats Abroad aims to use the data to compel Congress to take urgent action to pass legislation that provides tax and financial access relief for Americans abroad.

By participating in this survey, Americans abroad will help Democrats Abroad form a better understanding of Americans outside the United States and develop tools to lobby the U.S. Congress to enact tax reforms that support U.S. citizens living outside the country. We encourage everyone to share this survey with all American friends and family living abroad.

Democrats Abroad last conducted a tax survey in 2019 which collected nearly 10,000 responses.
