Documents that shine a light on US rock band The Doors attempts to become better known in the UK and Europe in the 1960s and early '70s are to go under the hammer in an unlikely location – Woking, Surrey in England.
The unique collection includes a copy of The Doors’ vinyl LP, Morrison Hotel, autographed by all four members: lead vocalist and lyricist Jim Morrison, keyboard player Ray Manzarek, guitarist Robby Krieger, and John Densmore, the band’s drummer.
The sale also includes a framed 10 x 8 inch promo photo of grunge supremos Nirvana, autographed by Kurt Cobain, Krist Novoselic, and Dave (Foo Fighters) Grohl.
Beatles fans will be particularly interested in a lot titled “The Break-Up of The Beatles” – more than 300 pages of documents compiled by advisors and legal representatives of The Beatles relating to Paul McCartney’s London High Court case that precipitated the end of the most important group in pop music. They include courtroom records and meetings between the legal and financial representatives of all parties.
Officially named ‘James Paul McCartney versus John Ono Lennon, George Harrison, Richard Starkey, and Apple Corps Limited, 1970-1971’, Macca instigated the proceedings after vehemently disagreeing with his bandmates over the appointment of Allen Klein following the death of their manager Brian Epstein, and what he believed was Klein’s mismanagement of The Beatles’ financial affairs..
The items – and a lot more – go under the hammer at Ewbank's Auctions on February 26, 2026. www.ewbankauctions.co.uk
