THE TRANSATLANTIC MAGAZINE
In the run up to Burns Night, which is celebrated on January 25, a new limited edition craft beer has been launched to pair up with Scotland's national dish. There's still time to order some in time for the biggest cultural occasion for Scots everywhere, as well as anyone of Scottish descent and anyone who enjoys haggis.
Online craft beer specialists Flavourly have teamed up with Edinburgh-based craft beer maker Cold Town, who specialize in creating novel, fun brews, to create the first 'Haggis Craft Beer'. For full authenticity and a great taste, they partnered with Scotland's most popular haggis maker, Macsween, who have been making the tasty Caledonian delicacy for generations.
Before you ask, there's no meat in the brew, but the Cold Macsween Pale Ale, aka Haggis Beer, uses the exact spice blend from the top secret Macsween family recipe. (Macsween do a vegetarian haggis too, for those who don't eat meat.)
The American can confirm that it's a lightly-flavored easy-drinking, Pale Ale with subtle spice and pepper notes, making it a perfect companion to your Burns Supper. Raise a refreshing glass or two to Robert 'Rabbie' Burns, Scotland's national poet.
The limited edition Cold Macsween Beer costs £19.99 for 6, £29.99 for 12 or £49.99 for 24 cans of 330ml (just over 11 ounces) including free delivery and is available exclusively from the Flavourly website at 330ml at www.flavourly.com/haggis-beer
