Pat Tillman was an American football player at Arizona State University and professionally for the NFL’s Arizona Cardinals. Following the September 11 attacks, Pat left his NFL career to enlist in the U.S. Army, serving as an Army Ranger in Iraq and Afghanistan. He was killed in Afghanistan in 2004 at the age of 27. His family and friends established the Pat Tillman Foundation to carry forward the values that defined his life — service, scholarship, humble leadership and impact. Read Pat’s Story at

Before joining the Army, Pat often rode his bike to Rúla Búla Irish Pub in Tempe, Arizona, where he would enjoy a Guinness while studying his Arizona Cardinals playbook. He kept his own glass, engraved with his ASU #42, behind the bar.
Before deploying, Pat left the glass there with a promise to return for another pint. That glass — and the promise behind it — helped inspire Pints for Pat, a tradition that brings people together over a pint to celebrate Pat’s legacy of service, character and purpose.
Pat’s legacy lives on through the Tillman Scholars, a community of remarkable military service members, veterans and spouses committed to leadership and service beyond self. The Pat Tillman Foundation invests in these emerging leaders, helping them make an impact in communities across the United States and around the world.
