Congressman Holding to discuss US Citizenship Based Taxation in London
George Holding will discuss his Tax Fairness for Americans Abroad Act

Published on April 3, 2019

Congressman George Holding, who has been spearheading efforts to end Double Taxation of US Citizens residing abroad, will be attending an event in London on April 24 to discuss his Tax Fairness for Americans Abroad Act (TFFAAA).

The event, which is being organized by Republicans Overseas UK, is being billed as a non-partisan effort to understand and advocate for the end of Citizenship Based Taxation. Congressman Holding will discuss his bill, and explain how Americans living overseas can help to progress the bill.

In an interview with The American magazine, Carmelan Polce, Head of the Democrats Abroad Taxation Task Force, explained that "Congressman George Holding wanted to initiate something, so he introduced a proposal on the last sitting day called the Tax Fairness for Americans Abroad Act [TFFAAA], a broad, non-specific bill that didn’t answer several questions. But it meant we have a marker, a milestone that we have achieved something. It presents a framework that we can use to build an Act that has all the design elements we need to meet the needs of the overseas community and satisfy the concerns of lawmakers who don’t want to see this law abused. There’s enough there to prompt you to ask all the relevant questions as the holes in it are obvious. Now the provisions need to be agreed to fill those holes." When asked if Congressman Holding will 'front' a new version of the bill, Ms Polce said "That’s my expectation."

The event therefore will be particularly interesting for overseas Americans, especially if Congressman Holding is working on a bi-partisan basis to secure support for his bill.

Alongside Congressman Holding, the event will also be attended by Solomon Yue, Global CEO of Republicans Overseas, and John Richardson of Citizenship Solutions.

The event takes place on April 24 at a location near to Green Park Tube Station (at a venue to be detailed to ticket buyers), between 6pm and 7:30pm.
