THE TRANSATLANTIC MAGAZINE
Rookie sensations and veteran leadership will be on display in London this year, among many other talents of course, as the NFL International series of games have been released ahead of the full 2024 schedule announcement.
The Chicago Bears had the honor, if that is the right way to describe it, of having the number one selection in this year's Draft. They chose, as was expected Caleb Williams, the hot quarterback prospect out of USC. He has been named as the team's starter, with the Bears hoping that any controversy at that position quietened and the new star will settle in at the job at hand.
Now, he and the rest of his teammates have a trip to London to look forward to as they have been slated to play in the middle of a trio of games to be played in England's capital. Their opponent is the Jacksonville Jaguars, who are now part of the London gridiron landscape.
Just as last year the Jags are to play two back-to-back games, one as the road team, the other in their home from home Wembley Stadium. The last of the now traditional three UK games has the Jags hosting the New England Patriots, a team very much in the transitional phase with future Hall of Fame Head Coach Bill Belichick now gone from their sideline.
The veteran player who will grace our shores is Aaron Rodgers. The New York Jets put everything into getting the former league MVP last season, only to see him go down with a season-ending injury on opening series of plays in the team's first game. Now he's back and ready to repay the faith shown in him by the Jets organization.
Tottenham Hotspur Stadium will be loud when he enters the field to take on the Minnesota Vikings in the first game in London.
In addition to the London games the NFL continues to spread its brand across the globe. London will be the sandwich between two other games played away from North America. For the first time a game will be played in Sao Paolo, and in the opening week no less. The Philadelphia Eagles will battle the Green Bay Packers in Brazil in what will no doubt have a huge carnival atmosphere.
Further to this Munich once again has a game, with the New York Giants and Carolina Panthers making the trip to Germany in November.
