THE TRANSATLANTIC MAGAZINE
The news on the London streets is that nightclubs are done, and bars are the thing. If you are over the discomfort of brutal, minimalistic rooms with back wrenching Philippe Starck barstools then enter The Little Scarlet Door, this one's for you.
As an ex-pat in London, I have always longed for the local neighborhood bars of American cities which just don't seem to exist here. Immediately upon entering, there is a playful spirit and it is clear that here, fun is to be had.
TLSD is brought to you by the people behind The Little Blue Door in Fulham, The Little Orange Door in Clapham, and The Little Yellow Door in Notting Hill – a group with a vision that aims to create, “regulars” who will frequent often. The staff were exceptionally warm, accommodating and at ease, which often you do not find at a club, and it's a sign of good management and training.
Did it feel like a New York bar? Not really, it felt rather more like the Old Town, Chicago bars. A 2,200 sq feet space across two floors with comfy couches, cozy nooks for a snog and quirky flashback decor such as roller skates, old school Nike trainers, skateboards, houseplants, record players and sporting equipment.
Sometimes you just walk into a place and like it. This is one of those places. It's going to be a local Soho mainstay for sure.
