North Americans to star in Inaugural W Series
Shea Holbrook and Sabré Cook of the US, and Megan Gilkes from Canada, will be racing in Europe for the inaugural 2019 women’s racing series
2019 marks the start of a brand new motor racing series - and the big headline for this new series is it's for women drivers only, as the auto racing world seeks to create new opportunities for tomorrow's World Champions. The W Series was announced earlier this year as an all-new, groundbreaking proposition, a free to enter series for women drivers with a prize fund of $1.5 million. At the launch of the W Series, CEO, Catherine Bond Muir, explained that "There are just too few women competing in single-seaters series at the moment. W Series will increase that number very significantly in 2019, thereby powerfully unleashing the potential of many more female racing drivers. W Series drivers will become global superstars – inspirational role models for women everywhere – and every organisation, every company, every sponsor and indeed every single person who helps W Series’ winners and champions achieve those ground-breaking successes will be able to celebrate their part in it, publicly, to lasting worldwide acclaim ... W Series is an inspiring innovation whose time is now."
A number of international drivers applied to take part in the first season, with 28 going through to testing phase at European circuits, Almeria and Melk. After the 28 were tested to the limits, 18 were announced to take part in the 2019 season of the W Series. We're delighted to let you know that three of these competitors represent North America! Shea Holbrook (28) and Sabré Cook (24) from the US are joined by 17 year old Megan Gilkes from Canada. As they prepare to embark on this massive opportunity, and atune themselves to racing in Europe, they found some time to tell The American magazine what it means to be involved and how it'll influence their careers.
