Americans who have chosen to live abroad, and people who are US citizens by an accident of birth, are being encouraged by the French-based Association des Américains Accidentels (AAA) to donate to a fund to fight Citizenship Based Taxation (CBT).

CBT is the system whereby you are taxed by the US government on your income wherever in the world you live (as opposed to Residence Based Taxation which is defined by where you live). Only the United States and Eritrea have this kind of system.

Fabien Lehagre, the AAA’s President, is asking for your help to stand against this iniquity. In its first six weeks their campaign attracted 740 members and donations of more than $56,000 toward an initial target is $200,000.

Lehagre told The American about the next steps: In a few months, legal actions will be launched before the American courts by the firm Zell & Associates and the idea is to support its action through public relations and lobbying actions.” He added, “I am convinced that by uniting hundreds of thousands of Americans behind a single objective, to end Citizenship Based Taxation, we may have the means to change things.”
