Some sporting rivalries just won’t go away. One of those is between seven-time Super Bowl winning quarterback Tom Brady and fellow QB Eli Manning. Manning only won two Super Bowls – but in both of them he beat Brady.
Tonight (Monday September 16) Wrexham AFC play Birmingham City FC in Sky Bet League One, the third tier of English soccer. Normally that wouldn’t inspire a vast amount of interest outside of the domestic games, but this time the football angle – American football, that is – and a Hollywood flavor have sparked interest way beyond or those two towns.
Tom Brady is a part owner of Birmingham City, and Wrexham is famously co-owned by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney. To spice things up a little, the actors have pulled in a new fan for their club.
On Wrexham’s Instagram account, Friday, the club announced: We are honoured that @elimanning has coincidentally, (because Co-chairmen @robmcelhenney & @vancityreynolds begged him) joined the @Wrexham_AFC fanbase, just in time for our match over at @TomBrady's @BCFC on Monday night.
Manning then posted: Now I can beat @tombrady in football and fútbol! Go @wrexham_afc!
Brady’s response? A 17 second video where he picks up one of his Lombardi trophies and says, So, I’ve been working on a little response video to Eli and I’m looking around the house, but I can’t find the other six of these… So Rob, can you just educate the Wrexham fans just a little bit on the history of the NFL? Thanks Bud. ‘Preciate it, I’ll see you Monday!
